Detection Profiles

Overview

Detection Profiles are collections of data patterns. Built-in profiles are provided by default, categorized by types of sensitive information and related compliance standards. Users can customize profiles by selecting specific data patterns.

Built-in Detection Profile

There are two main categories of built-in (predefined) detection profiles: by type of sensitive information and by compliance standards.

  • PII : Personal Identifiable Information

  • PHI : Protected Health Information

  • NPI : Non-Public Information

  • CHD : Cardholder Data

  • SAD : Sensitive Authentication Data

• Compliance

  • GDPR : General Data Protection Regulation (EU)

  • HIPAA : Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (US)

  • ISMS-P : Personal information & Information Security Management System (South Korea)

  • PCI-DSS : Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard

  • PIPA : Personal Information Protection Act (South Korea)

  • HITECH : Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (US)

  • PIPEDA : Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada)

  • GLBA : Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (US)

  • CCPA : California Consumer Privacy Act (US California)

While built-in detection profiles can be selected when creating a discovery job, they contain numerous connected data patterns, which may lead to longer scan times. For quicker scans, it is recommended to create a custom profile with only the desired patterns.

Built-in profiles cannot be deleted or modified, but the data patterns they include can be reviewed.

Adding a Custom Detection Profile

To create a custom detection profile, click the + Detection Profile button at the top of the Detection Profile list. This will take you to the creation page where you can specify the data patterns to be included in the profile.

• Adding Data Patterns

  • Click the + Data Pattern button to open a popup with the list of available patterns. Select one or more patterns to add them to the profile.

  • To perform a data scan, specify a pattern of the Data type.

  • To search only by path name, specify a pattern of the Keyword type.

• Removing Data Patterns

  • From the list of added patterns, select any pattern to remove it.

    

• Detection Profile Name: Enter a name for the Detection Profile.

• Description: Provide a description for the custom Detection Profile. A detailed description can help easily identify the pattern set when linking the profile to a job.

Editing and Deleting Custom Profiles

• Editing a Custom Profile: Click on a specific row in the Detection Profile list to view and modify the settings of a custom profile.

  

• Deleting a Custom Profile: Select the checkbox next to a custom profile and click the Delete button.

If a custom detection profile is in use by a discovery job, it cannot be deleted. To delete it, first remove the detection profile from any associated discovery jobs.
